Nan Goldin: I'll Be Your Mirror

Nan Goldin: I'll Be Your Mirror (Verenigde Staten, 1996): 461 blz: Uitgeverij Scalo

"Ï'll Be Your Mirror" van Nan Goldin is een persoonlijk fotoboek.

In "I'll Be Your Mirror" staan maar liefst 80 bladzijden met tekst.

Citaten:
- When I started photographing seriously in '71, '72, '73, art photography was basically rocks and trees and perfect printing and, right from the beginning, David and I were the dust-and-scratch school. We only cared about content.

- Nan's Manhattan life organized itself early along the principles of a collective, and the climate of her work has always been that of generous collaboration. She has spoken of her camera as an extension of herself, as a part of her body, an additional appendage, her true eye, of there being no distance between herself and her subjects, of thinking of herself as being in the same life with them, of not exposing them to anything she would not be willing to undergo herself. People understood that being friendly with Nan meant being on easy terms with the lens.

- Nan has said. "I photograph directly from my life. These pictures come out of relations, not observations."

- For me it is not a detachment to take a picture. It's a way of touching somebody - it's a caress. I'm looking with a warm eye, not a cold eye. I'm not analyzing what's going on - I just get inspired to take a picture by the beauty and vulnerability of my friends.

- Maybe more than other photographers I don't believe in the single portrait. I believe only in the accumulation of portraits as a representation of a person.
